On
Friday, November 12, 2004, at Tropicana
Field, Chuck LaMar, Mercedes-Benz USA
and the Pediatric Cancer Foundation (PCF)
will host The Fishermen's Ball, the ultimate
sensory treat with grand tropical flower
arrangements dazzling the eyes and the
nose; music that will excite the ears,
and a cause that will touch your heart.
Presented by Suncoast Mercedes-Benz Dealers,
this is the largest fund raising event
of the year for the Tampa-based charity
dedicated to funding pediatric cancer
research. The Fishermen's Ball, part of
Chuck LaMar's Mercury Grand Slam Celebrity
Fishing Tournament, hopes to reach its
landmark goal of $1 million through this
event.
___From 6:00
p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday, November 12,
the field at "The Trop" will
be transformed into a tropical paradise,
and guests are encouraged to show off
their favorite tropical wear. Celebrities
and anglers participating in Chuck LaMar's
Mercury Grand Slam Celebrity Fishing Tournament
that weekend, along with organizations
and individuals committed to "Reeling
in the Cure" for pediatric cancer,
will be attending The Fishermen's Ball.

___Gourmet
delicacies will accent the Ball's festivities.
Chefs from select Tampa Bay area restaurants
will be preparing specialty dishes throughout
the evening. Each dish will be complimented
by a distinctive wine selection.
The live and silent auction is a prime
highlight of the evening, giving guests
a chance to bid on impressive items such
as a Hell's Bay boat, round-trip plane
tickets for two to anywhere in the US
courtesy of AirTran Airways, a Neiman
Marcus shopping spree, an autographed
guitar from the band Styx, and many other
must-have items.
___Each year,
during The Fishermen's Ball, event Chairman
Chuck Lamar presents The Ted Williams
Award. The tournament's founding members
created the award in 1998 to celebrate
the accomplishments Williams made beyond
the baseball diamond into children's lives.
At last year's event, legendary angler
Stu Apte was presented with the award
for his humanitarian accomplishments.
Past award recipients include Wade Boggs,
Curt Gowdy, Steve Yerrid, Dr. Cameron
Tebbi, and Frank Sargeant.
As the presenting sponsor of the gala,
Mercedes-Benz USA will also bestow the
What Drives You Award to children who
are celebrating a significant milestone
with PCF -- the one-year anniversary of
their last chemotherapy treatment.
___More
than 800 people are expected to attend
The Fishermen's Ball on Friday, November
12. Tickets are $250 per couple, and Tables
of Hope are $1,250. Tables include 10
tickets to the dinner and auction, as
well as recognition in the auction program,
acknowledgments at the gala, and mentions
on the PCF Web site.
___This is
the second year Mercedes-Benz USA has
sponsored The Fishermen's Ball. All three
Suncoast Mercedes-Benz dealerships including
Crown Eurocars Mercedes, Lokey Mercedes,
and Mercedes-Benz of Tampa have been longtime
supporters of PCF in its mission to find
a cure for childhood cancer.
___The non-profit
Pediatric Cancer Foundation was formed
in 1991 when two Tampa mothers met while
their infant daughters were being treated
for cancer. Their children beat the odds
and are healthy young women today. In
the last 12 years, PCF has granted $2
million to researchers at St. Joseph's
Children's Hospital in Tampa, All Children's
Research Institute in St. Petersburg,
and Shand's Hospital at the University
of Florida in Gainesville.
